The BSC criminology course here at Bucks New University covers a number of different areas of the study of crime, the study of people who commit crime and the study of the criminal justice system and also the penal system. I decided to study at Bucks. I wanted to live at home and study and commute in and Bucks is probably the most local one to me. I have an easier way to get here so using the local buses and having family support will be a lot easier for me as well as making new friends around this area. Effectively, over the 3 years you’ll be covering a number of different exciting topics starting with introductory courses about sociology and criminology perspectives and then it builds on that each year but it also incorporates an opportunity for you to do volunteering. Having graduated with a degree in Criminology here at Bucks New University your future prospects are primarily within the criminal justice domain.

It’s just so interesting as well as like something which you’ve never learned before and all of a sudden you’re just learning it bit by bit and then getting into interesting topics and then you’re just like maybe this is something which I’ll take on to my dissertation or this is something which I might actually do in my employment after I finish Uni. The facilities that makes Criminology great are their custody suite down on the first floor. Effectively we’ve got a suite that looks like a police station. It has an interview room, it has the Sergeant’s desk next to that we have a flat. Basically it’s a kitchen, it’s a lounge area and we can set that up as a crime scene and students can get kind of a simulation experience of a crime scene but also, you know the policing that happens after that.
Things we offer students is the opportunity to work closely with a personal tutor and the personal tutor develops a relation with the students and the students are able to share personal matters. You could be working in courts, working with witnesses, working with families you could be dealing with inclusivity, diversity, those sorts of things. Migration as well which is incorporated to the degree at some point. I think this Uni as well has actually helped a lot on the choices that you make. So, for example is it the right choice that you want to make and then just talk to them, see what best option is for you. I would say that, just go for it see what you like and I think if you do like having a wide range of choices to have after you finish Uni then this course, I think could be best suitable just because of the experience you’ll gain, the friends that you’ll make. It’s just, it’s like a different experience than anything else.
